What are the customs risks?

1. Related risks

For products purchased on Taoobuy, the system will issue a risk warning for your product when submitting the order and verifying it. After the goods are delivered to our warehouse, our company will recommend a low-risk logistics route for you based on the product attributes and transportation experience.

Warm reminder: Some products will inevitably have certain customs risks (such as a small probability of package return, fines, taxes, etc.), and the risk is borne by the recipient, please understand.

2. Statement related

For products purchased on Haobuy.com, please refer to the tariff threshold reference and transportation experience to make a reasonable declaration (users can choose personalized declaration or system declaration when submitting the package).

Warm reminder: The probability of a package being taxed depends on the frequency of customs inspections and will be affected by customs policies. For details, please refer to the "Tariff Threshold Reference". You will bear the customs-related risks (such as package returns, fines and taxes, etc.), please understand.

In addition, if your product is heavy or the product value is high, it will also increase the probability of being inspected by customs. We recommend that you avoid packages that are too heavy or have too many similar products.

VAT reform in the UK and EU countries

From January 1, 2021, the UK Value Added Tax (VAT) reform abolished the VAT exemption for goods with an intrinsic value of no more than 15 pounds imported into the UK, and changed it to taxation from 0 pounds, that is, goods with a declared value of more than 15 pounds will be subject to VAT if they exceed 0 pounds. The taxes and fees incurred by users purchasing and transporting goods on Taoobuy will be borne by the users themselves.

From July 1, 2021, the EU Value Added Tax (VAT) reform abolished the VAT exemption for goods with an intrinsic value of no more than 22 euros imported into the EU, and changed it from 0 euros (that is, goods with a declared value) to taxation of more than 0 euros. At the same time, the EU launched IOSS (one-stop import service), and it is recommended that goods under 150 euros declare VAT through IOSS. Some logistics routes on Taoobuy provide IOSS services, and taxes are calculated and levied based on the fixed tax rates of EU countries and the declared value of your package. You can choose whether to use the platform's IOSS to pay taxes on your behalf according to your needs. The following are the relevant routes for your reference:

Tips:

1. For parcels using the IOSS service, the total declared value cannot be modified after the parcel is submitted. If you need to modify the value, please cancel the parcel and resubmit.

2. For parcels using the IOSS service, the minimum declared value will be limited to 30% of the value of the goods in the parcel, and the maximum declared value will be determined according to different routes.

3. The IOSS service simplifies the tax collection process, speeds up customs clearance, and improves customs clearance efficiency. However, it does not guarantee that your parcel customs clearance time will be shortened. For details, please refer to the operating hours of the local customs.

4. If your parcel uses the IOSS service, Taoobuy will pay the tax on your behalf. However, it does not guarantee that your parcel will not be taxed by the local customs again. If you encounter this situation, Taoobuy recommends that you cooperate with the local customs to re-clear customs and pay taxes. After you receive the parcel, you can contact us on the platform with the tax bill and payment receipt for tax refund.

5. In order to protect the rights and interests of users and platforms, Taoobuy cannot provide you with the IOSS number we use.

Reference for tariff thresholds

Generally speaking, when the declared value of your package is lower than the tariff threshold of the country, it will not be taxed (but fraudulent declarations are another matter). If your package is taxed, you need to pay the tax in time and help with customs clearance.

Reference table for tariff thresholds of various countries:

Tips:

1. The tariff threshold in Switzerland is 100 Swiss francs, and the VAT threshold is 65 Swiss francs.

2. Canadian and European customs have strict inspections on packages. Commercial express delivery such as DHL, UPS, FedEx, etc. are more likely to be subject to tariffs.

3. For EU countries, Taoobuy provides ioss services on some routes. You can choose whether to use the platform ioss agent to pay taxes in advance. For details, please refer to the VAT reform in the UK and EU countries.

Tips for package submission:

1. The weight of the package is an important basis for customs to determine whether it is a civilian package or a commercial package. A 10 kg package is more likely to be considered a commercial package. So please consider the weight of the package when submitting the package.

2. Too many products of the same type are also the basis for being judged as commercial packages. Please try to avoid sending a large number of the same products in one package.

3. Due to customs policies, please consider carefully when sending medicines.

Customs declaration instructions:

Customs clearance fees for non-duty-free/non-ioss proxy service routes are borne by the user. Customs inspection of packages is basically in the form of random inspection. If the customs considers your package to be special (for example: large size, heavy weight, or contains sensitive items, etc.), the customs will generally take the initiative to contact the recipient to provide an invoice or customs clearance documents (customs clearance fees are borne by the recipient). The cost of the package being returned or destroyed due to failure to contact the recipient or the recipient's non-cooperation with customs clearance will be borne by the recipient.

If you need a customs clearance invoice, you can download it on Taoobuy or contact the online customer service to obtain it.
